What is the maximum number of covalent bonds that a hydrogen atom can form?

Is it 2 because one hydrogen atom only has 1 electron, and if they share only 1 electron wouldnt that make one of the atoms a negative? I cant really understand any science questions in this subject! Can someone explain it to me and why?
