Where does protein synthesis occur in humans?

Protein synthesis never occurs anywhere near DNA in a eukaryotic cell (humans are eukaryotes). The exact location of protein synthesis depends on the ultimate purpose of the protein. But there are only two places where polypeptide chains are synthesized: either in the cytosol, or in the rough endoplasmic reticulum.
